Classic Sugar Cookies
These Classic Sugar Cookies are buttery, sweet, and perfect for decorating during the Christmas season.
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk
- Sprinkles or colored sugar for decoration
Instructions:
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and baking powder
In a separate large bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy
Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mix well
Gradually add dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk
Form the dough into a disc, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours
Preheat oven to 375F 190C and line baking sheets with parchment paper
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface, cut out shapes using cookie cutters
Place cookies on baking sheets and decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden
Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack
